Just want to let you know that my two shows of Taos Portraits will be coming down on Monday the 16th. If you haven’t seen the shows yet I would like to invite you to catch them before it’s too late. The exhibit at the Millicent Rogers Museum (sponsored by the Healy Foundation) has all 60 of portraits featured in the book Taos Portraits, which is available for purchase at both locations. The photos are hung in a single ‘band’ that wraps around all 90 linear feet of gallery #9, which creates an almost panoramic experience of being among all these characters.
The Hulse/Warman Gallery (222 Paseo Del Pueblo Norte) is exhibiting 14 of these portraits in their largest format: 36″X30″ image size. The effect is like walking into a space with larger than life size images working together to create a strong sensation that will not leave you indifferent. Thanks taking some time to enjoy these shows. Please feel free to email me to join you for a personal tour of either show.
Fire Restrictions Lifted
Tuesday, July 10, 2012 – The Taos County Office of Emergency Management, upon consultation with the US Forest Service’s Carson National Forest has announced that ALL fire restrictions on ALL public and private properties within the County will be lifted as of 8:00am Friday, July 13th.
The Board of County Commissioners and the Taos County Office of Emergency Management wish to thank the residents and businesses of Taos County for their patience and cooperation in getting our County and its public lands through this heightened period of fire danger.
We are happy to report that the County has once again weathered the crises with no loss of life or property.
We would like to remind everyone that all open burning of fields, ditches, construction debris or any other uncontained fire ALWAYS requires a County Burn Permit, whether fire restrictions are in place or not.
Burn permits may be obtained through your local fire district or from the Taos County Office of Emergency Management by calling (575) 737-6465 or from the Taos County website at http://www.taoscounty.org/DocumentView.aspx?DID=338 for the burn permit.
A listing of contact information for your local fire department is also available on-line at http://www.taoscounty.org/index.aspx?nid=80.
Our thanks are given to the volunteer fire fighters and fire districts of Taos County and the Enchanted Circle, as well as the US Forest Service, US Bureau of Land Management and NM State Forestry for their continued support and participation in our regional wildfire prevention planning efforts.
Forman-Hahn Flute Solo
LANTERNS ON THE RIVER, a short solo flute piece by Taos composer Joanne
Forman, will be performed by Taos flutist Tina Hahn, on the 11 a.m. hour
of SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS on Sun. July 15, on KRZA-FM (88.7)
LANTERNS ON THE RIVER was inspired by a photo of the luminaria-like
lanterns floated down the river at dark in Hiroshima every Aug. 6, in
memory of those killed by the atomic bomb–an estimated 76,000 in the
first 16 seconds; 100,000 by the end of the first day.
Most of us were not even born on Aug. 6, 1945–but we’re stuck with it……
